...and we're back.

Look for much more regular updates in the coming weeks, along with a few surprises. Needed the last 8 months off, because doing a part time poster blog really drains my energy.

Marq Spusta - Grizzly Adamz

Though his store has been down on his website for awhile, Marq Spusta hasn't stopped working.  This poster is for John Medeski's new project  "Grizzly Adamz."  Though no edition details have been released yet, this looks to be a winner.  A limited amount will be released at the show, and artist copies will be sold on his website, the only difference is that they will be on green paper.  Let's hope that when these go up he might put up some remaining copies of his recent mind-blowing St. Vincent poster.

Plan Slater from Mondo Space

Todd Slater has been putting out great work for the past few years, and  recently did a fantastically creepy job on a Mr. Ben Linus, not to mention a great Mandala from Phish's stop in Maryland last summer.  This time he's teamed up with Fright-Rags and Mondo Tees to bring us a print for Ed Wood's seminal film "Plan 9 From Outer Space."  It will only be sold packaged with a t-shirt and will be a limited run of only 200 copies.  Instead of a usual Mondo Tees release it will be a Fright-Rags exclusive; let's hope their website holds up if only for a little bit.  The drop is tomorrow at 10:00 am, EST.

Tim Doyle - Ghostbustin'

Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China,  The Wizard, The Godfather, and now Ghostbusters.  Tim Doyle's prints are hot as ever, and his most recent two just went on sale to his mailing list.  Which begs the question, why aren't you on this mailing list?  Like most of his other prints there's a standard edition, and a variant glow in the dark edition.  While the glow edition will only be sold to people on the Nakatomi mailing list, the leftover regular editions should hit his site in the next few weeks.

James Flames - Is on Fire

James Flames had a big hit earlier in the year with his sold out Ra Ra Riot poster, and his new work is just as compelling.  His most recent prints are for Yeasayer and the XX, and I wouldn't be surprised if these followed suit and sold out like the Ra Ra Riot.  For a limited time he's also offering a black and white reproduction of a recent King Khan poster, mailed out free with any purchase (while supplies last).  Along with his concert poster he also has a slew of great original art prints, check them out here

Nate Duval - Step by Step

Nate Duval has a fantastic new poster for Cyro Baptista's Banquet of the Spirits, aswell as an art print.  Here's a little color by color run down of his printing process, images off his official twitter.  This poster should hit his shop the day after the event, or tour in this case.   If he keeps with his usual routine you should expect to see the art print up soon.    He also has a new "The XX" poster in his shop.

We Go Together...

Keeping with Branden Otto's new LOST diptych, here are a few of my favorite posters that go together, and somehow, are still on sale.  Images from Gregg Gordon of GigArt, Kristen Summers via Artillery Design, and a screen printed pair from DKNG.  Some of these come in matched number sets, and all are more expensive to buy alone.  I left out Daniel Danger's "Fenway," but will surely post about it when more info of a Tiny Media Empire release is in the works.

Gregg Gordon of GigArt - Ween

Kristen Summers - Built to Spill

Zoltron - High on Fire

Zoltron's recent work has been selling out on his website instantly, from his Willy Wonka, Fantastic Mr. Fox, to his Mo'fessionals, the only real chance I see in picking a lot of these up is over at Gammalyte when the leftover copies go on-sale; usually about fifteen minutes after Zoltron's site sells out.  Limited copies of his recent Jello Biafra (Rush Limbaugh in Gitmo attire) are still on-sale.  The latter of which I picked up after striking out on the Mr. Fox drop.   His new print for High on Fire looks great, and will be dropping on wednesday April 7th, no time announced yet.  Here's a look.

Branden Otto - (LOST) ...Just Progess

Branden Otto's first LOST print "Candidates" sold out in record time, fetching prices in the hundreds on ebay, and that was just the beginning.  It turns out that his original LOST print was merely the first part of a diptych and that the second panel focuses on the non-candidate characters.  Keeping with the release of the first print, it seems the second will also drop on a LOST day, April 13th.  These prints are expected to sell out quickly.  I was also told that there will be five or six matched "numbers" sets on sale as well, prints numbered 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42.  Since the image for the second print has already leaked on expressobeans, I felt everyone might like to take a look.  Namaste.

Dan McCarthy - "The Lost World" Poster for Mondo Tees

Ever since the end of SXSW there has been chatter around the internet about a new "The Lost World" poster released by Mondo Tees, finally an image has surfaced.  A few artists recently commented that they had been working on dinosaur prints, including big names like Emek, though this hardly seems his style and looks more like something Dan McCarthy would produce, being that it's trees and dinosaurs.  This image is off of twitter and the quality isn't really what I would hope to post, but seeing as it's making the rounds I thought everyone should be updated.  Sadly I don't know the artist or the edition numbers, but one could bet that if Mondo does have any of these posters left, they will be up for sale soon at their store.  I'll update when I find out more information but here it is, the first Posterheads exclusive.  Thanks to TrevorTrujillo via Twitter.

OMGposters' Mitch has confirmed it's Dan McCarthy, it's also pretty simple math.

theBungaloo - Animals Should Act Like People

theBungaloo, based in St. Louis, recently came to my attention due to these show posters for  Appleseed Cast and Circa Survive.  The hand pulled screen prints are pretty inexpensive and the colors are quite vivid.  I spent a while clicking around his Etsy store, and was quite impressed.  It wasn't so much his show posters that caught my eye, but his older art prints.  I enjoyed his prints focusing on animals acting like people and his hilarious descriptions of the pieces.  Here are a few of my favorites, and if you have some time check out his other work.

Branden Otto - "Candidates" Secretly part of a Diptych?

Branden Otto has something up his sleeve.

There's rumbling and chatter amongst those who were able to snag his sold out "Candidates" LOST print when it dropped on Tuesday.  People who have contacted Branden since it's sell out have been let in on a secret.  It seems that this LOST inspired work was always intended on being a diptych, with "Candidates" being panel 1.

In cryptic LOST fashion there are more questions than answers.  A few people are claiming that along with the arrival of the "Candidates" prints buyers will have an exclusive look into random  corner of second panel.  If this is the case hypothetically every 4th tube would have a different piece of the second print.  Perhaps with your help we can put them together and get some idea what's going to on the other half, of this diptych.

I'm hoping the panel continues right, and we get to see the (still standing at the time of the scene) four toed statue; and there better be a Desmond, brother!

Check back here for updates when my preview corner arrives.

Zoltron - Fantastic Mr. Zoltron

Zoltron has been doing Primus art and show posters for years, but his last movie poster for "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" caused quite a stir, selling out instantly and grabbing huge prices on ebay. This Fantastic Mr. Fox print was for the Red Vic Movie house, and it's set to go up on his site sometime in the morning (PST) hours on Friday. I know I'll be trying for one.

DRMIKEY - (LOST) Acrylics / Prints

I know some people are sick of the LOST prints, but hang in there it's only going to be another two months, and I can't get enough of them.  Stumbled upon this guy via a LOST twitter I was following during the official print releases and some of his stuff looks pretty good.  His name is DRMIKEY and he's only been releasing prints for a few months, feel free to check out his blog.  Most of his stuff is pretty cheap, unless you'd prefer one of the original acrylics.  Only two of these LOST acrylics have prints, but you can change that by requesting he create them for the rest.

SXSW - Prints from the Best

Sadly I wasn't able to make it down to SXSW for Flatstock, and because of this I felt I missed out on some great posters/prints.  For example, Daniel Danger's "The Senator's Daughter" and the rumored "The Lost World" and "Waking Sleeping Beauty" posters from Mondo Tees. (of which photos still haven't surfaced online)

But, just because you missed out on SXSW/Flatstock doesn't mean you have to miss out on all the posters, some are starting to surface online.  The first two I managed to come across are by The Small Stakes and Jay Ryan.

Masthay - Making it Official with Umphrey's

A. J. Masthay really caught my attention with his unofficial Phish posters, which continue to get better and better, and half the time much more to my liking than what they're selling inside the venue.  Over the past few months he's been putting out official prints for Umphrey's McGee, and I think these are just spectacular.  It's nice to see him moving up from The McLovin's to a more popular band, hopefully soon we'll get to buy one of his prints at a Phish merchandise table.  For now he's got five new Umphrey's McGee posters, three of which are his first triptych since his unofficial Phish Festival 8 triptych.  He also has a new art print.

Jim Pollock - Magic Hat "Vinyl" Print

Famed Phish artist Jim Pollock ended up doing a label for Burlington Vermont's Magic Hat Brewing Company, which later turned into a benefit print for charity.  These prints were originally sold only at the brewery; after they were added to the Magic Hat website and sold out instantly.  However, some extra copies must have been found because they are back in stock!  One of the cheapest Jim Pollock prints you're going to find around, and it's for charity.  Get one before they're sold out again, and for good this time.

Us and Them - Mystery Tube

I have heard a lot about Us and Them studios and liked a good amount of their work especially their vibrant art prints, though I never got around to picking any up.  If your experience with them is similar now might be a good time to pick up a few random prints at a great price.  According to gigposters here's what you'd have to look forward to in the Mystery Tube.

"1 large poster (18 x 24" +), 1 large art print (18 x 24"+) and 2 medium posters (12.5 x 19"). All prints will be picked at random! If you are a repeat customer, let us know what prints you already have in your collection, and we will make sure not to include those in your tube."

Nate Duval - Keeping the Streak Alive

Nate Duval has been putting out some great work recently, and his new concert posters and art prints are no exception. After doing what was the fan favorite Trey Anastasio Poster for the New York City show on the winter tour he ran the musical gamut to put out top quality work for Circa Survive, Keller Williams, and two for Spoon.   Not to mention a new Gomez print, which I like to think of as unofficially the fifth print in his plant-head concert poster series, along with last year's Gomez, Andrew Bird, Mike Gordon, and Monsters of Folk.
